The conference covers, in a broad sense, science and technology of relevance for interfaces between synthetic materials and biological systems or within biological systems – biointerfaces – which constitute one of the most dynamic and expanding interdisciplinary fields in science and technology. Rapid progress is driven by a number of growing industrial and clinical applications –biosensors and biochips, tissue engineering and medical implants, stem cell therapies, nanomedicine and drug delivery, medical implants – and by the connected need to understand biointerface and self-assembly processes at a fundamental level.
